When Nana moved in with me, I started playing music for her from a 60's playlist on Spotify. To my surprise, she recognized several songs.
Nana doesn't know the season, let alone the date or significance of any given day.
But that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the holidays. It actually means we can enjoy them even more (because every time is the first time for Nana)!
Incessant gibberish, to clear well intended insight, to complete hilarity and nonstop laughter- interactions with Nana can be hysterical. I often wonder what outsiders think- if they aren't astute to what I'm dealing with, I'm certain we both look insane.
Nana has been accepted into a local day center program and will start this week. I've taken her several times during the application process and she seemed to love the change of scenery, and especially loved socializing with everyone she met.
Nana has always been a mother. She's always been needed by someone. It doesn't surprise me one bit each night when she says she needs to go home because her babies need her.
Just a few of my favorite Nana quotes from July...
Alzheimer’s is incredibly draining - not only to the person diagnosed with it, but to everyone around them. There’s revolving anxiety - even if Nana seems to know something in one moment, it is often lost the next. There is never a moment quite like the last.
When Nana has to pee, she has to pee now. Well, most of the time...
You see, sometimes she's just crying wolf.
See all those chocolate spots on my shirt?? Those are courtesy of Nana.
The following event happened in all of 10 seconds about 1:20am on a random Thursday into Friday morning..... Let's face it, that's how long and when most of our finer moments happen! Welcome to a moment in Sara's crazy mind!
It's scary AF to be woken up in the middle of the night by anyone, but even scarier when it's your 79 year old Nana who doesn't know where she is, who the fuck is in bed with her, or how the hell she got there.
